DeEarnest “D-Dog” Hawkins, 37, of Davenport, Iowa, died unexpectedly on his birthday February 19, 2017 at his home. Services in celebration of his life will be held at 11 am Friday, February 24th at Third Missionary Baptist Church, 222 West 14th St., Davenport, where his family will greet friends from 10 am until time of service. Burial will be in Oakdale Memorial Gardens, Davenport. Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport, is assisting his family with arrangements.

DeEarnest was born in 1980 in Davenport, IA to Earnest Pearson and Jessie Hawkins. He attended Davenport Central High School where he loved to play baseball and basketball. His passion was in collecting hats and cars and enhancing them to fit his personality. He went on to further his education and obtain a Business Management degree. But most importantly DeEarnest enjoyed being around family and friends.

Survivors include his daughters Charlesreka Singleton and Detravia Hawkins; son DeEarnest Hawkins Jr., all of Davenport; grandchildren Za’Mauria Taylor and Mark Taylor III; father Earnest Pearson of Davenport; mother Jessie (Willie) Shorter of Davenport; sisters Elizabeth Hawkins Wilson (Nathan), Quintessa Hawkins, Troysheanna Hawkins, Jesricka Shivers, Midaja Shorter, Willnaja Shorter, Troydaja Shorter and Latearica Nabors; brothers Troy Shivers Jr., DuPree Shivers, DuVoe Shivers and Willie Shorter Jr.; special brother Kanie Bragg; grandfather Roy Clay; grandmother Almetta Pearson and step-grandfather Archie Howard; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his fiance’ Tanisha Whitelow and her daughter Malaysia Whitelow.
