Wayne Gesell, 96, of Long Grove, Iowa, died Thursday, Feb. 23rd, 2017 at his home. Graveside services will be held at 2 pm Monday, Feb. 27th at Davenport Memorial Park with Pastor Ron Huber officiating. Military honors will be presented by the Donahue American Legion Post. Memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church, Davenport, for their youth activities, of which he was a long time member. Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport, is assisting his family with arrangements.

Mr. Gesell was born in 1920 in Davenport, Iowa to Charles and Armena Gesell. He married Alice Peckenschneider on November 6, 1948 in Davenport. She preceded him in death March 28, 1994. During WW II, he served with the U.S. Army. He worked for J. I. Case for 35 years, retiring in 1982. His memberships included the Donahue American Legion and Scott Co. Farm Bureau.

Survivors include a daughter Susan Kraus of Long Grove; brothers Cranston (Elaine) Gesell and John (Mildred) Gesell; and a niece. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a son Richard in 2006, and a brother Robert.
