LECLAIRE – Kenneth Valentine, 79, of LeClaire, Iowa passed away February 25, 2017, at Riverview Manor, Pleasant Valley after a long extended illness. Services in celebration of his life will be 10 a.m Friday, March 3rd, 2017, at Weerts Funeral Home, Kimberly at Jersey Ridge, Davenport. A gathering of friends and family will be 5-7 pm Thursday at the funeral home Interment will be at Glendale Cemetery, LeClaire, Iowa.
Born on September 22, 1937, in Putnam County, Missouri, as a twin son to William Theodore and Remah Marie Valentine. He was united in marriage to Dixie Darlene Norton. She had a son Gregory Scott Valentine who Kenneth adopted. Out of this union, two children were born, Kenneth Eugene Valentine and Joan Annette Valentine-Gossett. He later married Sharon Kay Wilson who preceded him in death.
Kenneth was raised in Putnam County, Missouri where he received his education, and graduated from the Unionville High School with the class of 1956. Kenneth retired from Case Company, Burlington, Iowa. He worked several jobs in LeClaire, Iowa after he retired. He also had worked several jobs with his twin brother Keith Valentine prior to his job at Case. Kenneth along with his twin brother Keith, traveled back and forth from Iowa and Missouri for deer hunting with his nephews. He loved to fish and he and his son Kenneth Eugene Valentine (otherwise known as “Little Ken) received a couple awards for Catfish Tournaments through Valley Inn in Pleasant Valley. He spent numerous hours working in his garden, and loved to share the produce with his family and friends. Kenneth is known to be a story-teller and a prankster. He loved life and loved his family. Kenneth made friends everywhere he went, and had all the staff at Riverview Manor wrapped around his little finger. A special thanks to all that took care of and loved Uncle Kenneth at Riverview Manor. You are all angels.
He is survived by his daughter Joan Annette Valentine-Gossett, Syrma, Tennessee;
Granddaughters Stephanie Valentine, Phoenix, Arizona; Erin Goldsberry (Colin Goldseberrry),
Davenport Iowa; brother-in-law, Jack Wellman, Kirksville Missouri; sister-in-laws, Melva
Fuqua, Princeton, Iowa; Mary Wyatt, Bettendorf, Iowa; Daughter-in-law Audrey Fahrenkrog
Blair, Eldridge, Iowa; Nieces Mia Valentine, Muscatine, Iowa; Teresa Faulkner (Glen Faulkner),
Yakima, Washington; Brenda Nelson, St. Joseph, Missouri; Nephews Robert Valentine, Clinton,
Iowa; Jeffrey Valentine (Shelly Valentine - special niece-in-law), Davenport, Iowa; Mike
Wellman (Sue Wellman), Kirksville, Missouri; Mark Wellman, Kirksville, Missouri; Monty Valentine, Davenport, Iowa; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews; and great-great nieces and nephews.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents; all his siblings; both wives; both sons Kenneth Eugene Valentine and Gregory Scott Valentine; nephew Dayton Hamilton; and his grandson Kyle Valentine.
Uncle Kenneth, we will miss you deeply, and will always be grateful for the memories we shared. There will never be another that will be able to capture your boyish charm.
