Mrs. Schebler was born October 2nd, 1919 in Stephen Minnesota, the daughter of Henry and Mabel (Hess) Hamann. She grew up as a farm girl, the youngest of three sisters, learning the value of hard work at an early age. She graduated in 1937 from Davenport High School and enjoyed spending time with her classmates as a part of their Reunion Club. Bernice was employed by the Rock Island Arsenal during WW II and then continued her career in the cost department at Deere & Co.

Bernice met the love of her life, John Schebler, at the Col Ballroom. He was a dance instructor and she loved to dance. On September 10th, 1955, she married John at Holy Family Catholic Church of Davenport. John was the Treasurer and co-owner of the Schebler Co. along with his brothers. Their first home on East Central Park Ave. was paid in cash, which Bernice had saved, as John had put his money into the family business.

Bernice quit work and began her life as a mother with the birth of Jeannine followed by Trish and John Jr. She very much loved the role as wife, mother, homemaker, friend and volunteer. She enjoyed helping with the kids’ school activities and following their many interests. Bernice was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church for 77 years, having been baptized at the original church in 1940. She was also involved in many community organizations including: The Moose, N.W. Turners, Elks, Liedertafel, Nifty Fifty and J.F.F. Club (Just for Fun, 60+yrs.) where she was an avid card player.

Bernice will be remembered for her perfectionist ways in maintaining their home, yard and gardens, her wonderful cooking and canning skills, her welcoming ways to family and friends and her kindness toward all. She truly loved and adored her kids, their spouses, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Those left to honor her memory include daughters and sons-in-law, Jeannine and Dave Crockett of Davenport, Patricia and Douglas Loupee of Littleton, Colorado and son and daughter-in-law, John Jr. and Susan Schebler of Golden, Colorado. She was also the much beloved grandmother to twelve grandchildren and two great-grandchildren: Lindsay (Dave) Moeller, Benjamin, Jonathon (Breanna), and Michael Crockett; Christopher, Kyle, Cory (Sara) and Kelsey Loupee, Damir, A.J., Kamila and Madina Schebler; Jackson and Wesley Moeller; and one sister, Helen Sutton of Princeton, IL.

Bernice was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, John and sister, Marjorie Ven Horst.
