Mary Ellen June Jensen, age 85, of Davenport, passed away on Thursday, March 16, 2017 at Genesis Medical Center, East Rusholme in Davenport. Services to celebrate her life will be held at 11:00 am, on Thursday, March 23, 2017 at Cedar Memorial Christian Church, 306 Cedar Street in Davenport. The family will greet friends from 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Wednesday at Weerts Funeral Home, Kimberly and Jersey Ridge in Davenport. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cedar Memorial Christian Church.
Mary Ellen was born on June 21, 1931 in Muscatine, to Charles and Lucille (Lawson) Rhodes. She graduated from Davenport High School. On July 3, 1951, Mary Ellen was united in marriage to George Glenn Jensen in Davenport. He preceded her in death on May 3, 2004.
Mary Ellen was the secretary and bookkeeper for Jensen Machine & Welding that she and her husband started in 1969, and operated more than 35 years. She also was employed with Royal Neighbor’s as a secretary retiring in 1992. She was a faithful member of Cedar Memorial Christian Church and was involved with many of its organizations and youth group. She was also a member of the Blacksmith & Welder’s Association Auxillary, and was a leader with the Girl and Boy Scout Troops. She enjoyed flower gardening, writing poems, doing ceramics, but especially time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include her daughters, Karen Jensen of Davenport, and Patricia (William) Swanson of South Lyon, Michigan; sons, Kris (Karen) Jensen of Lawrenceville, Georgia, and Karl (Linda) Jensen of Davenport; grandchildren, Debra, Glenn, Mark, and Andrew Jensen, Melissa Barry, and Mitchell, Charles, and Rachael Swanson, and grand dog, Kooper Jensen; great grandchildren, Lee and Jack Jensen, and Charlotte and Claire Barry; and a sister, Sylvia (Martin “Bud”) Rollston of Blue Grass.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mary Ellen was preceded in death by 2 sisters, and 1 brother.
