Joan Ruth Miller, of Davenport, passed away on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf. Services to celebrate her life will be held at 2:00 pm, Monday, April 17th at Weerts Funeral Home, Kimberly and Jersey Ridge, Davenport. The family will greet friends beginning at 12:00 noon until the time of the service. Burial will be in Oakdale Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Miller was born in Detroit, Michigan, to J. Kenneth Stringer and Della Stringer. Following her high school graduation, she started her university career at Barnard. She then joined the U.S. Navy and served as a Wave. She graduated with a BA in Art from Michigan State University. On April 27, 1957, she married Vernon L. Miller, D.C. in St. John’s United Methodist Church, Davenport. From 1950 – 1954 she began her career in Germany as a Club Director for American Armed Forces stationed in Europe. Upon her return to the US, she became the executive director for the Camp Fire Girls for 15 years. Completing her education with a degree in all aspects of tour management, she graduated from the American Tour Management Institute and began her second career as a tour escort with Tri State Tours in 1981 until her retirement. Joan was an active member of P.E.O. for over thirty years. Her professional memberships included Business and Professional Women, and QUOTA, among other civic memberships.

Survivors include daughters, Elizabeth (Vladi) Andrei, of Northport, NY, Barbara Miller, New York, NY; and stepson, Paul Miller of Custer, SD; grandchildren, Maximilian Gregory, Alexander Vernon, and Lillian Todd Primamore, a sister, Patricia Schaefer, of New York, NY, and Peter Primamore, also of New York. Additional survivors include cherished nieces nephews, as well as great-nieces and nephews.
