Phyllis Lorraine Orwig, 95, of Rockford, IL, died Wed., April 19, 2017 at Morning Star Village, Rockford. Services in celebration of her life will be held at 2 pm Sat., April 22nd at Bettendorf Presbyterian Church, 1200 Middle Road, Bettendorf. Her family will greet friends from 1 pm until time of service Sat. at the church. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport, is assisting her family with arrangements.

Mrs. Orwig was born in 1921 in Abington, IL to Fred and Cleo Peabody. She married Russell Orwig on Sept. 18, 1948 in Galesburg, IL. He preceded her in death Jan. 10, 2015. During WW II, she was a welder on planes. She was a leader for the Campfire Girls, served as Deacon for Bettendorf Presbyterian Church and belonged to East Iowa Presbyterian Women. Additionally, she enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, sewing, golf and tennis.

Survivors include her daughters Marcia (Richard) Van Evera of Rockford, IL and Marla (Jed) Brickley of Austin, TX; grandchildren Nikolaus Van Evera of Belvidere, IL and Courtney Van Evera of Fort Collins, CO; and sister Gloria (Gerard) Gallagher of West Palm Beach, FL. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and several siblings.
