Rochelle C. Perkins, 84, of Davenport, Iowa, died Wednesday, May 10th, 2017 at her home. Services in celebration of her life will be held at 1 pm Friday, May 19th at Weerts Funeral Home, Kimberly at Jersey Ridge Road, Davenport. Visitation will be held from noon until time of service at the funeral home. Burial will be in the National Cemetery, Rock Island, Illinois.
Mrs. Perkins was born October 6, 1932 in East Moline, Illinois to John and Lucille Dixon. She married Glenn Perkins in 1964 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He preceded her in death. She was a field director for the Girls Scouts of America for 15 years and also a lifetime member and former President of the NAACP. She co-founded the Take Five Coffee Shop and was owner/ operator of an income tax service. Her memberships also included Bethel AME Church, Davenport. She enjoyed reading, playing cards, bowling, traveling, going to the casinos and various other activities with her family.
Survivors include her sisters Josephine Dixon of Davenport, Stephanie (Russell) Hall of Rock Island, Betty (Reginald) Boswell of Davenport and Toni (Gavin) Angel of Des Moines; brothers Ronald Dixon of Waterloo, IA and Ernie Dixon of Davenport; aunt Beverly Johnson of East Moline, IL; stepchildren Karen Perkins of Davenport and Glenn Perkins Jr. of San Jose, CA; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
She is preceded in death by her husband Glenn, parents John and Lucille Dixon, sisters Geraldine Perkins, Colleen Dixon, Voncille Tellie, Drucilla Kimmins, Debra Garrett, and brothers John, James and Michael Dixon.
Special thanks to Toni and Gavin Angel for providing in-home care for Rochelle, enabling her to stay and pass in her own home per her wishes. Also thanks to Betty Boswell and Kandace Angel for assisting with this wish. Special thanks to Dr. Tammy Wells and Genesis Hospice.
