Kathleen Sylvia Sitz, 90, of Davenport, Iowa died Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am Monday, June 26th at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, 121 W. 12th St., Davenport. There will be no visitation. Burial will be in Oakdale Memorial Gardens, Davenport. Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport, is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Sitz was born on July 3rd , 1926 to Lester and Anna (Buelow) Backus in Ware, Massachusetts. The family home was in Barre, MA where she graduated from Barre High School in 1944 as salutatorian of her class. She went to work for Orville Grahame, general counsel for Paul Revere Life in Worcester and he encouraged her to enroll in the University of Iowa, his alma mater. She took the train to Iowa City alone, enrolled at Iowa and from then on, she considered herself an Iowan. She met her husband, Donald Sitz on a blind date lined up by John Ruhl who was a friend of her roommate.

Kathy and Don were married on August 28, 1949 in Barre, MA and lived briefly in Iowa City while Don finished law school. They moved to Davenport when Don started his career at Lane and Waterman.

She was a member of Trinity Cathedral Altar Guild serving as directress, Junior and Senior Boards of the VNA, Junior Symphony Board, St. Luke’s Hospital Auxiliary, Junior League of the Quad Cities, Clarissa Cook Home Board, Board of the Davenport Family Y, Colonial Dames, Chapter FJ PEO, Tuesday Club, The Outing Club and the Davenport Country Club.

Mrs. Sitz is survived by her daughters Gretchen (Craig) Cordt and Karen Korn; son Robert (Lori); grandchildren Anne (Derick) Thurston, Elizabeth (Caleb) Recker, Sally (Andrew) Muench, Susan, Ellen and William Korn and Sarah, Tillie, Anna and Laura Sitz; five great-grandchildren; her brother Lester (Sylvia) Backus; and sister-in-law Darlene Sitz. Her husband and sisters Shirley Bechan, Eleanor Hanelin and Barbara Roberts preceded her in death.

Memorials may be made to Trinity Cathedral, Central High School, and HELP Legal Assistance. No flowers, please.
