On December 25th, 1951 the world got a gift from above, Rose Schuch. Some knew her smile from getting a ride across town, some knew her stern face when they got out of line in her classroom, and others just knew her infectious laughter at Friday Coffee. She was Rose – teacher, friend, and to the luckiest bunch – Mom.

On June 25th, 2017, Rose passed unexpectedly in Kingwood, TX. Rose was born in Chicago, IL, the first of seven children of Rosemary and James Coffey. She spent her childhood sipping ice cream sodas and causing trouble in Elmhurst, IL where she met her husband, Jerry Schuch. She and Jerry moved to Bettendorf, IA in 1978, where they raised three beautiful children.

Rose began teaching in 1974, and dedicated the majority of her career to the Bettendorf School District. In 2015, Rose retired from Grant Wood Elementary, where she taught for over 20 years. Rose adored her students, and cherished the time she spent helping them achieve their dreams.

Rose will forever be remembered by her children, Daniel (Lindy), Julia (Sean), and Jennifer (Greg), granddaughters Meredith and Caroline, and siblings, James, Mary Fran, Jean, Maureen, William, and Patricia.

A visitation will be held on Saturday July 1, 2017 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Cathedral located at 422 E. 10th Street, Davenport, IA 52803. A Catholic funeral mass will be held immediately following at 11:00 a.m. Rose will be buried at Davenport Memorial Cemetery located at 1022 E. 39th St., Davenport, IA 52807.

The family also invites you to join them for a casual celebration of her life on Sunday July 2, 2017 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Duck Creek Lodge located at 3300 E. Locust St., Davenport, IA 52803.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Bettendorf Community Schools Foundation in the name of Rosemary Schuch.

The family asks that you spend time with your children, take a walk on the water with your loved ones, and make a toast to enduring friendships – that is what Rose would have wished for you.
