Madelyn A. Harbeck, 98, of Davenport, Iowa, passed away Thursday, June 29, 2017. Services in celebration of her life will be held at 11am Friday, July 7th at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Davenport. Her family will greet friends from 10 am until the time of the service. Memorials may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.

Madelyn was the middle child of Charles and Florence (Gay) Cruson, born on July 19, 1918. She was united in marriage to Ernest P. Harbeck on March 15, 1940. They resided in Byron, IL and had two sons, Richard and David. She moved back to Davenport after her husband passed in 1973.

Madelyn was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, where she worked in the office for a time. She was active on the Prayer Chain for many years. When Luther Manor in Bettendorf was built, she served as manager for several years before moving to Luther Towers upon its completion over 25 years ago. She was a volunteer at the Putnam Museum Downtown Davenport and was a member of the Eastern Star. Madelyn was affectionately known as “Nana” to her many nieces, great-nieces, nephews, and great-nephews. Nana was always eager to keep up with all the adventures of her entire family and anxious to have them visit.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ernie, her youngest son David, two sisters Nellie and Lucille, and two brothers Joseph (Bud) and Richard (Dick). She is survived by her sister, Patricia White, Estes Park, CO, her son Richard “Dick” (Chris) of Frankfort, KY; grandchildren Jason (Janet) Harbeck of Grayslake, IL, Sarah (Matt) Harbeck of Canon City, CO, Justin and Steve; 3 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
