Chester W. Fanning, Jr., 90, of Moline, IL, passed away Thursday, July 6th, 2017 at his home in Moline. Private burial will be Monday, July 10th at Davenport Memorial Park, followed by a public memorial service at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, 121 West 12th St., Davenport, at 10:30 am.

Mr. Fanning was born in 1927 in Moline, IL to Chester William Fanning, Sr. and Anna Bristol Fanning. He married Joan Elizabeth Uken on June 23, 1951 at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, Davenport. She preceded him in death October 9, 2000.

Mr. Fanning was a 1945 graduate of Moline High School, where he was halfback and captain of the football team. He was a Marine Corps veteran, and graduated from the Vogue School of Art, Chicago. He was a graphic artist and account executive for Bawden Brothers Advertising in Davenport, and was advertising manager at Pella Window Company, Pella, IA. In 1967, Mr. and Mrs. Fanning opened Fanning Advertising Agency, Inc. in Davenport, of which he was President.

He was a maker of 18th century fine furniture reproductions, and a woodcarver of duck decoys and a life-sized carousel horse. After retirement, he authored a children’s book, Whoozoo at the Zoo. His sharp wit and humor were a staple at all of his daughter and granddaughter’s events, of which he never missed one. Most of all he was kind and generous, and will be missed dearly by his family and his friends of all ages.

Survivors include his daughter, Elizabeth Press and granddaughter, Anna Gisela Press, both of Moline; two nieces and a nephew. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Delane Fanning and a niece, Jone Fanning. May they rest in peace.
