Ronald Schneider, 85, of Bettendorf, IA, passed away Sunday, July 30th, 2017 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf surrounded by his loving family. Memorial services in celebration of his life will be held at 11 am Friday, August 4th at First Presbyterian Church, 1702 Iowa St., Davenport. Visitation will be held from 4-7:00 pm Thursday at Weerts Funeral Home, Kimberly at Jersey Ridge Road, Davenport. Inurnment will be in the National Cemetery, Rock Island, Illinois where military honors will be conducted by American Legion Post #26, Davenport. Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church Music Fund or the First Presbyterian Church Foundation.

Ron was born in 1932 in Chicago, IL to Roy and Dorothy Schneider. He married Gwendolyn Ramseyer on July 24, 1957 in Crown Point, Indiana. She preceded him in death June 3, 2016. Ron earned his bachelor’s degree from Northern Illinois and his master’s degree from the University of Iowa. He was a teacher with the Davenport Public School System for 33 years, retiring in 1993, and was active with the Davenport school retirees. A United States Naval veteran, he was a member of the Davenport American Legion Post #26. He was also a member of First Presbyterian Church for which he served as Deacon and Elder; the Davenport Elks; and CASI. He volunteered as a driver for the Mississippi Valley Blood Center, the Davenport Schools Museum and Meals on Wheels with his wife Gwendolyn.

Ron was very active and loved to be outdoors. He enjoyed gardening, bird watching and exercising. He loved Bix weekend and completed the course many times with his family. Music was also a central part of his life. Ron enjoyed singing in the First Presbyterian Sanctuary Choir for 48 years and loved listening to classical music. He is fondly remembered sitting in his lawn chair on the driveway of his home listening to music and sipping an ice cold beer. Ron was a great husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend and will be dearly missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Survivors include his daughter Rhonda J. (David) Wilkison of Avon, CO; son Gordon W. (Julie) Schneider of Davenport; grandchildren Scott, Lindsey, Ryan, Chad, Kal, Koy and Annette; great-grandchildren Mikel, Grayson, Gracie and Landon; sisters Jeanne Bloesch of Calumet City, IL and Mercedes (Don) Kratz of Parrish, FL, along with numerous cousins and friends. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a brother.
