Wilbert VanCleve Green, “Peabody” 89, of Davenport, passed away early Friday morning, Sept. 8th, 2017 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf. Services in celebration of his life will be held at 12 noon, Friday, Sept. 22nd at Weerts Funeral Home, Kimberly at Jersey Ridge Road, Davenport. Visitation will be held from 11 am until time of service Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Oakdale Memorial Gardens, Davenport. Memorials may be made to the family.
Mr. Green was born in 1927 in Hannibal, Missouri to Earl and Geneva Green. He married Ruth Acosta in 1949. He drove a truck many years for Louie Buckner Deposal and later worked for Walker Royal Janitorial Service on the Rock Island Arsenal retiring. He enjoyed telling jokes, watching sports, especially the Chicago Cubs, Bears and Hawkeye football; He enjoyed cooking, walking, playing tennis, watching horse races, collecting baseball cards and memorabilia, meeting people, and spending time with his family, grandchildren and the many friends he met along the way.
Survivors include his daughters Beverly Green-Clay, Judy (Marvin) Neely, Cathy Green and Lisa (Cristopher) Tonning; sons James Green, Steven (Donna) Green, Dennis (Peggy) Green, Jerry (Carol) Green and Terry Green; 32 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; and three great great-grandchildren; sisters Mayna Shephard, Edna Mae Bolt, and Mary Ella Bailey. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Earl Green and James Green, sisters Arnetta Smith, Mendill Farris, and Genevieve Farmer, son Donald Allen Green, granddaughters Anita Green and Chanel Green, grandson Jerry Jr. Green.
