Pearl M. Wortman, 103, of Paris, Missouri and formerly of Davenport, passed away early Friday morning, Sept. 22, 2017 at Monroe Manor, Paris, Missouri. Services in celebration of her long life will be held at 10:30am Wednesday Sept. 27, 2017 at Weerts Funeral Home, Kimberly at Jersey Ridge Road, Davenport with Rev. Ronald Carlson officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:30am until time of service at the funeral home. Burial will be in the National Cemetery, Rock Island, Illinois. Memorials may be made to the Handicapped Development Center, Davenport.
Mrs. Wortman was born in 1914 in Davenport, Iowa to Henry A. and Amanda C. Hansban. She graduated with the class of ’31 from the former Davenport High School and in 1979 received her Certified Professional Secretary Rating. She was the office manager for 40 years for Roederer Transfer and Storage Co, from which she retired in 1984. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church where she served as an Elder and was active in Presbyterian Women. She also served as Treasurer (nine years) and as Recording Clerk (six years) of Presbytery of East Iowa. Additionally, she was active with the Women’s Division of the Davenport Chamber of Commerce, for which she served as past president.
On June 13, 1931 she married Max S. Wortman Sr. in Davenport. He preceded her in death June 24, 1975. Together they had five children: Dr. Max S. (Cora) Wortman Jr.of Brooklyn Park, MN, Janet R. Wortman of Hillsboro, OR, Carol M. (James) Spencer of Paris, MO, Betty L. Wortman of Laramie, WY and Randall S. Wortman of Davenport; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren and eight step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son Dr. Max S. Wortman, sisters Helen L. Kinnaird, Bertha Koopman and Laura Hansban and a brother Harry Hansban.
