Randall (Randy) Fred Dittmer, age 66, went home to be with his Lord on Nov. 16, 2017 after a long battle with ALS/FTD. He died peacefully at home, surrounded by family and friends. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of nearly 15 years, Melody, and his children, Sean (Catherine Glidewell) Dittmer of Walcott, Stacy (Freddy ) Almanza of Chicago, and Stephanie Dittmer of Davenport, stepchildren Matthew (Amber) Brand of Kansas City, MO, Misty (Luke) Dobbs of Youngsville, LA, and Marcus (Kelly) Brand of Davenport. He will also be fondly remembered by his grandchildren, Alfredo, Adeline and Aubriella Almanza, Andrea and Sophia Dittmer, Skylar Brand, Zoey Dobbs, Ella, Creighton and Camden Brand and his siblings Gary (Tammy) Dittmer of Hannibal, MO, Trudy Crane of Davenport, four nieces and one nephew.

Randy was born on April 4, 1951 to Fred P. and Helen (Roberts) Dittmer in Davenport. His parents preceded him in death, as did his stepmother, Marjorie McDermott Dittmer. He graduated from Davenport Central High School. He immediately began his lifelong vocation of farming and was also employed by RV Hopkins Barrel Company of Davenport. He was later employed by McCleary Excavating of Blue Grass until his retirement in 2015. He was Buffalo Township Trustee and a faithful member of Community Fellowship Church.

Randy married Julie Stanger on August 17, 1974. They were later divorced. On November 24, 2002, Randy married Melody Reasland B rand. Together they built a hme neart Blue Grass, where friends, family and neighbors have been welcomed over the years with open arms. Randy will be remembered for his abiding faith, his strong work ethic, his gently demeanor and his incredible generosity. He was the kind of person who would drop everything to help a friend in need. He never met a stronger and loved sharing his passion for Jesus.

Visitation is at Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport on Sunday, November 19th from 11:00 – 4:00 pm. A Celebration of Life at Community Fellowship Church in Blue Grass will be held Monday, November 20th at 10:30 am with graveside service to follow at Blue Grass Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Iowa City Hospitals and Clinics Neuromuscular Department, the ALS Association, or Unity Point Hospice.
