Fred L. Munday Sr., 97, of Davenport, Iowa, passed away Sunday, November 19th, 2017 at the Good Samaritan Society, Davenport. Services in celebration of his life will be held at 10:00 am Sat., November 25th at Weerts Funeral Home, Kimberly at Jersey Ridge Road, Davenport. Visitation will be held from 4-6 pm Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Holy Family Catholic Church, St. Alban’s Episcopal Church or to the Good Samaritan Society.

Fred was born on November 4, 1920 to Homer and Florence (Hall) Munday in Chariton, Iowa. He married Josephine McCulley on May 17, 1941 in Davenport. They had one son, Fred Jr. Josephine passed away in 1978. Fred married Jeanne Shepperd in 1981 and she preceded him in death in 2000. Fred then married Margaret Slofkosky Beach on February 6, 2002, following years of playing cards together.

Fred served during World War II in the United States Army from 1942 to 1945 receiving five battle stars. Following his military service, he returned to the Rock Island Arsenal, from where he retired in 1976 after 35 years. His memberships included St. Alban’s Episcopal Church, Davenport American Legion Post #26, Davenport Moose #28, AARP, Quad City Times Plus 60 Club, Putnam Museum, and Bettendorf Senior Citizens Club, He was an avid card player and belonged to many card clubs. He enjoyed traveling with his wife and loved to be with family. Fred loved life and never met a stranger.

Survivors include his loving wife Margaret; son Fred Jr (Mary); and many nieces and nephews. Larry and Judy Munday of Milan, Illinois were always special. He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers and three sisters.

Fred’s family wishes to thank the staff of Good Samaritan Society for their loving care of Fred over the past couple of years.
