Teresa Higareda, age 74 of Davenport, IA, finally found a foe she could not beat and lost her fight against liver disease on Friday November 24th at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, IA. Visitation will be on Tuesday, November 28th, with a vigil liturgy starting at 4 and visitation continuing afterwards until 7 at Weerts Funeral Home in Davenport IA. Mass will be Wednesday at 10:30 am at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Bettendorf, IA. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that all memorial donations be made to Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House or Genesis Hospice in her honor.

Teresa was born on September 21st, 1943 to Agustín Rábago and Ma. Cristina Flores de Rábago in Chiapas, México. On a a purely by fate encounter in Mexico, she met her husband Robert Higareda from Iowa while getting their oil changed in Celaya, México. After a four-month relationship, they married and Teresa moved to the United States with him. Here in Iowa, they raised their three children, Cristina, Maria and Rob. Teresa taught herself to speak English by watching classic American T.V. She worked many places in her life including the former Jumer´s Castle Lodge, Farm and Fleet, Oscar Mayer, and APAC. Teresa did not have financial wealth, but her love and generosity were abundant. Her greatest treasures were her children and grandchildren. Every hour that she worked, every dollar that she earned was given to them. She had a huge heart, a giving spirit, and a never-quit attitude. Her amazing Mexican cooking, passion for gardening, ability to fix things around the house, loving hugs, and witty humor will be greatly missed.

Those left to honor her memory are her children: Cristina (Kevin) Zimmerman on Bettendorf, IA; Maria (Chris) Jordan of Cary, IL; and Rob (Lisa) Higareda of San Antonio, TX; her five grandchildren Grant, Macie and Charlie Zimmerman and Colton and Lucas Jordan; her four sisters, all residing in Mexico, Maria Cristina, Ma. de la Luz, Martha y Elsa María de Guadalupe Rábago Flores; and last but not least, her "sister" and "brother" here in the US, Barbara and Don Brook. She joins her father, mother and ex-husband in heaven.

The family would like to extend a HUGE thank you to the staff at Clarissa Cook for their loving attention to their mother, who truly extended her life and gave her the beautiful ending that she deserved. We will miss you all, too (Matt, Diane, Denise, Dawn, Keitha, Kendra, Heather, Alice, Josie, Ruth, Julie, and especially, Lisa, who would check in on Teresa, even when she was not working and the many other employees who we can’t remember by name at this time).
