Audrey "Earlene" Berning
Died on Monday, January 22nd, 2018

Cemetery: National Cemetery
Audrey “Earlene” Berning, 94, of Senior Star, Davenport, died Monday, January 22nd, 2018 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf. As per her wishes, her cremains were united with her husband’s and will be inurned at the National Cemetery, Rock Island, Illinois.

She was born in Oklahoma, the oldest girl of nine siblings, to Portie and Nola Trimble. Her growing up years were in Texas; earliest married years in Illinois; retired years in Wisconsin and Arkansas; and widowed years in Iowa. She loved time with her family and friends, golfing, gardening, crafting, shopping, her poodles, and traveling the USA and abroad. Most of all she loved walking hand-in-hand with her husband Edward for over 70 years, everywhere they went. They met on a blind date in WWII. He was declared AWOL that night as he missed the last bus to his Army Air Corps/ Air Force base but they were meant to be.

She is survived by a daughter Sherry Berning; grandson Tobias (Ashlyn) Lewis; son-in-law Lance Hahn; great-grandsons Elijah, Ezra and Eylam; sister Nell (Bobby) St. Ama; sister-in-law Bernice Trimble; special cousin LaVerne Lundquist; and three generations of nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, seven siblings, her husband Edward, her daughter Rebecca and several nieces and nephews.

As much as Earlene wanted to stay around to see her great-grandsons grow up, she was more than ready to go walking hand-in-hand with her beloved Edward again--- and so she has.
