Courtney Jane (Mullin) Ryan, age 31, of St. Paul, MN, formerly of Davenport, passed away on February 19, 2018 in Duluth, MN, as a result of an automobile accident. Memorial services to celebrate her life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at Weerts Funeral Home, Kimberly and Jersey Ridge Road, Davenport. The family will greet friends before the service, beginning at 1:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to the National Park Service or the Humane Society.
Courtney was born on November 18, 1986 in Davenport to Paul and Pamela (Coblentz) Mullin. She graduated from Davenport North High School in 2005. She obtained her BA in outdoor education from Western Illinois University, Macomb, Illinois in 2009. On August 5, 2016 she was united in marriage to Jacob Ryan in an outdoor ceremony at Blackhawk State Park, Rock Island, Illinois.

Courtney loved to travel, hike and camp. During her senior year of college, she travelled the western U.S., and then spent a semester in Spain. After graduation, she lived and worked in every corner of the United States, (Alaska, West Virginia, Georgia, California, Maine, Colorado and Minnesota) and worked for AmeriCorp in Kalispell, Montana and North Conway, New Hampshire. She also volunteered in Guatemala, at a shop that made bicycle powered water pumps. Most recently, Courtney found a job with the Trust for Public Land in St. Paul, consistent with her beliefs and love of nature.

Courtney never met a stranger and was always the first to strike up a conversation. She brightened the lives and warmed the hearts of everyone she encountered with her infectious laugh and smile. Her other passions included music, dancing, animals, reading, playing sports, especially soccer and volleyball. She was also known for her cooking skills, especially her delicious, homemade pies. Her overriding wish was that people would live in harmony with the planet and each other.

Courtney is survived by her husband, Jacob Ryan of St. Paul, MN and their dog, Zephyr; her parents, Paul and Pamela Mullin of Davenport; sisters, Kristen Bakken (Lars), Stacey Struck, and Lyndsey Specht (Jason), brother Zachary Mullin, her nephews and niece; her in-laws, Don & Alice Ryan of Carol Stream, Illinois and their children, David and Corinne; several aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her two sets of grandparents.
